Sertoma is an acronym for “Service to Mankind”. Our motto is “Making Life Worthwhile”. Sertoma was founded in Kansas City, MO in 1912 and is the third oldest civic service organization in existance. Collectively Sertomans raise about $20 million dollars annually through local club fundraisers and all money stays within the individual clubs for local community sponsorships and distribution.
SERTOMA IN THE OZARKS
Sertoma Club of Springfield - Chartered on 07/12/41 by a Joplin Sertoma Club. The oldest club in Springfield, its partnership with the Springfield Boys & Girls Clubs goes back 67 years when it took over support of the original Springfield Boys Club. Today, this all men’s club with more than 100 members, is a thriving member of the Sertoma family. Springfield Club’s largest fundraiser is the annual Wingapalooza – a hot wings competition supported by area restaurants. An evening of good music, hot wings and auction fun. This club meets every Thursday at noon, at the Sertoma Building.
Heart of the Ozarks Sertoma Club (HOTO) – Chartered on 11/19/69 by the Springfield Sertoma Club – Heart of the Ozarks is another all mens club in Springfield and also enjoys a 100+ membership. HOTO was started to provide a broader base of support for the Springfield Boys & Girls Clubs and over the years they have been a driving force for Sertoma in the Ozarks. The Club’s longest continuing fundraiser continues to be BINGO! This club meets every Friday at noon, at the Sertoma Building.
Queen City Sertoma Club – Chartered on 02/15/1999 by the Heart of the Ozarks Sertoma Club.
All-Star Smiles Sertoma Club – Chartered 06/05/2002 by the Heart of the Ozarks Sertoma Club. The sponsorship of this club is to aide in annual funding for the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile also know as the “The Tooth Truck” – a mobile dental care unit providing services to underprivileged children in the Springfield area. Its members include men and women. This club’s annual fundraiser is the Grin-Iron Classic – An all-star, high school football game featuring Senior All-Stars from more than 50 area schools. This club currently meets the 4th Thursday of each month – 7:00 a.m breakfast meeting.
H.O.L.A. Sertoma Club – (Helping Others in Latin America) – Chartered on 5/7/2005 by the Springfield Sertoma Club. Primary sponsorship is the Medical & Educational needs for people in Latin America. This club currently meets the first Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m.
H.O.P.E Sertoma Club – (Helping Overcome Pediatric Emergencies) – Chartered on 5/15/2009 by the Springfield Sertoma Club. Primary Sponsorship includes raising funds and awareness for pediatric emergencies. This club currently meets the first (noon) and third (6:00 p.m.) Thursdays of every month.
P.L.A.Y. Sertoma Club - (People Leading Active Youth) – Chartered 2/26/2010 by the Queen City Sertoma Club. Primary Sponsorship – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Joplin. This club currently meets the first and third Wednesdays of every month at noon.
There is power in numbers and while each Sertoma Club works to fill a specific need within the communities we serve – we work together on larger projects such as Sertoma’s Chili Cook-Off and Christmas to Remember!
